THEGURLZNEXTDOOR

Born to Perform

Short
Bio

TheGurlzNextDoor are artists that excel at being eye-catching with their exhilarating sense of talent and style. Through their captivating looks, spectacular stage presence, choreographed sets, and most importantly as rappers, fire bars, TheGurlzNextDoor are able to grasp and maintain the crowd's attention and have them wanting more!

Their debut performance was in October, 2022 in front of a crowd of about 200,  and continued to perform at other events such as the 2023 Northampton and Springfield Prides; even performed in other states such as New York.

Bitches Basic, was their first critically-acclaimed work that jumpstarted their career; However, with both being members of the BIPOC and LGBTQ community, it’s not surprising that they must persevere against adversity on their journey in the industry (and life) by being assiduous in keeping their musical journey moving forward, especially since oppressive ideologies slow down their growth due to not being fully accepted by society. Nonetheless, they've been effectively handling the obligations required of independent artists to flourish by booking their shows, managing their own marketing by creating and editing their own videos, and connecting to others in the industry, which are usually done by a team.

Why listen to TheGurlzNextDoor?

Hip-hop has long been portrayed as one of the least LGBTQ-friendly genres of music despite the community's existence since the birth of the genre due to homophobic views and anti-gay lyrics most of the genre contains that highlights homosexuality as a punchline, which has been seen from some of the industry's biggest artists. For example, in 2018, Offset said in his song “Boss Life'' that “[he doesn’t] vibe with queers.”

In addition, the lack of inclusion in the main industry caused members of the LGBTQ+ community to be put into a sub-genre of hip hop based solely on engagement with LGBTQ culture in elements such as lyrical themes or artist's visual identity and presentation. The downside to this is that it diminishes their music to a niche that circumscribes their appeal to mainstream music fans, and although there’s still some representation increasing visibility of LGBTQ+ artist in mainstream music such as Lil Nas X and Frank Ocean, it doesn’t promote nor fully encompass the LGBTQ+ spectrum because both (and most) lean towards mainly masculine presentation.

With TheGurlzNextDoor being a rap duo that exemplifies strength in femininity, it broadens the scope of the different types of people in the LGBTQ community, which can lead to inclusion in the masculine-male ran industry that is hip-hop/rap. Why listen to men rant on about killing, being mysognistic and disliking gays when you can endorse TheGurlzNextDoor promoting empowerment through self-confidence and getting to the bag while subsequently encouraging equality and inclusiveness in the industry!
